Electrical design for production and process industries

Plants in continuous production cannot be stopped for a project. Conversions happen section by section, in downtime windows decided elsewhere. We plan so the documentation matches the plant in every intermediate state.

How projects run in this industry

  • An unplanned stop costs not just time but a whole batch.
  • Conversions happen section by section, during production.
  • Documentation is part of the operating licence, not an accessory.
  • Plants run for decades and are converted many times.
  • Cleaning, Ex zones and media dictate the design.
  • Many machine suppliers, grown documents, short windows.

And that is exactly where we come in

  • On-site survey and reconciliation of documents against the plant
  • Conversions in steps that fit your downtime windows
  • Revision and upkeep of plant documentation over years
  • Measuring point lists, tagging systems, change management
  • Extensions and migrations in the existing CAE project

Adjacent trades

  • Control cabinet building
  • PLC programming
  • Installation
  • Commissioning

We do not carry out these trades ourselves. On request we bring in specialised partners and coordinate the interfaces – you keep a single technical point of contact.

Plants in these industries are rarely shut down completely. The documentation must therefore match the actual state of the plant at any time, not only at the end of the project.

What connects these industries is not the technology but the rhythm. A filling line, a reactor, a blast furnace: in all three an unplanned stop costs more than the work that fixes it. That changes electrical design fundamentally. The most elegant solution does not win — the one that can be carried out in four hours of night shift and is documented by the next morning does.

The second common denominator is the burden of proof. In chemicals the documentation is part of the operating licence, in pharmaceuticals every change needs a traceable trail, in food production cleanability dictates the design. Anyone planning here plans against a framework fixed before the first line is drawn — and has to know it before starting.

We therefore work in the structure already present at your site and continue existing systems rather than replacing them. That keeps the plant maintainable beyond the end of the project, including for maintenance staff who never spoke to us.

In detail

Which industries this covers

A process plant with columns, pipe bridges and vessels.

02Plant engineering & process industry

Large plants, documentation grown over decades, tight shutdown windows.

We survey the as-is state, continue existing structures and plan extensions and migrations so the plant stays maintainable.

  • Industrial and large-scale plant engineering
  • Process and procedural plants
  • Production plants
  • Smelting, rolling and steel mills
  • Cement plants
  • Paper and pulp plants
  • Recycling and waste treatment plants
  • Environmental technology plants

07Chemicals & petrochemicals

Instrumentation, hazardous areas and documentation that withstands an audit.

We maintain measuring point lists, sustain the tagging and feed every change back into the record – expressly including the unglamorous parts.

  • Chemical industry and speciality chemicals
  • Petrochemicals and refineries
  • Chemical process plants
  • Plastics industry
  • Paints and coatings
  • Industrial gases
  • Tank farms and loading facilities

08Food & beverage

Hygienic design, wash-down resistance and lines that must not stand still.

We plan conversions section by section and keep the documentation matching the plant in every intermediate state.

  • Food processing
  • Beverage industry and filling technology
  • Breweries and dairies
  • Meat processing
  • Bakery and confectionery
  • Food packaging
  • Food processing machinery

09Pharma & life science

Cleanrooms, qualification and documentation that gets audited.

We clarify the required documentation scope before the project starts and design with a traceable change trail.

  • Pharmaceutical industry and plants
  • Biotechnology and biopharma
  • Cleanroom facilities
  • Laboratory automation
  • Production plants for medicinal products
  • Pharmaceutical filling and packaging systems

11Metals & heavy industry

Thousands of measuring points, revised within a non-negotiable shutdown window.

We prepare migrations and conversions of this scale so the downtime window holds – the quantity is the craft.

  • Steel industry and smelting works
  • Rolling mills
  • Foundries
  • Metal processing
  • Aluminium industry
  • Forges
  • Surface technology and electroplating

15Packaging & consumer goods

Production lines whose documentation connects layout plan to fluid diagram.

We link the documentation from hall layout to fluid plan so maintenance can work without queries in a breakdown.

  • Packaging machinery and filling systems
  • Labelling and cartoning systems
  • Palletising and end-of-line
  • Household appliances and white goods
  • Consumer goods production
  • Electrical appliance manufacturing
  • Pressing and forming technology

Frequent questions

Can you work while production continues?

The on-site survey yes, the conversion only within your downtime windows. What planning can do is cut the steps so interruptions stay short or fall into stops that are planned anyway. We do not promise across the board that nothing will stop.

Our documentation has drifted over the years. Where do we start?

With the as-is survey. We reconcile the existing documents with the plant and first deliver a list of the deviations. The effort follows from that — you know it before placing the order, not after.

Do you work in our CAE system?

Yes. We design in EPLAN Electric P8, ELCAD and WSCAD, in your project structure and to your tagging system. That is the point at which it is decided whether the result stays maintainable for your team.
