Standardisation & design methodology
In most design offices the biggest lever is not drawing faster but not drawing the same thing three times. Standardisation is uncomfortable because it costs time up front and saves it only later – which is exactly why it keeps getting postponed.
We look at how your department actually works: which steps repeat on every project, where information is captured more than once, where errors regularly arise. From that emerges a picture of what can be standardised and what cannot.
On that basis we set up the system environment: templates, settings, numbering, reports, file structure. A well configured EPLAN environment removes a considerable amount of daily manual work without anyone having to change how they think.
The second part is methodology: modular, reusable schematics. Plant sections are built as self-contained functional units that can be combined, instead of assembling every project from individual pages. That is the step that makes the difference for product lines and variants.
We do not impose a standard on your team. A standard the designers find impractical gets bypassed – and then the situation is worse than before. So it is developed with the people who work with it.

Process analysis
We observe the actual work and talk to the designers. What is written down and what is done are rarely the same.

Target picture
Together we decide what gets standardised and what deliberately stays free. Not everything belongs in a standard.

Implementation
System configuration, templates and module structure are built and tried on a real project, not on an example.

Handover
The rules are handed over in writing and introduced to the team. On request we accompany the first projects afterwards.

A standard only works once it is the fastest route. As long as the workaround is quicker, it will be taken – and rightly so.

Frequently asked
How long does such a change take?
Analysis and system configuration are doable within a few weeks. The module structure, by contrast, grows with the projects – realistically the first noticeable effects come after two or three projects, not after two weeks.
Do we have to change our way of working completely?
No, and we advise against it. A complete switch during ongoing project work almost always fails. We start where improvement can be isolated and build out from there.
What if we have to serve several customer standards?
That is the norm in machine building. Then it is not the presentation that gets standardised but the methodology behind it: same module structure, same data base, different output per customer template.
